Sunny Hills PTSA’s Exceptional Effort & Engagement Award

The Sunny Hills PTSA’s Exceptional Effort & Engagement Awards are presented quarterly to SHHS students who exemplify one or more of the three cornerstones of the SHHS Mission: Pursuing Knowledge, Creating and Innovating, and Building Community.  This award is not based solely on a student’s academic achievement but rather on their engagement and effort that may sometimes go unnoticed.  Many students graduate from high school without getting acknowledged throughout their four years there and this award helps recognize and acknowledge these students.

Selection Criteria:

Nominees must be Sunny Hills students who clearly demonstrate an exceptional effort at engaging one or more of the SHHS Mission cornerstones:

 Pursuit of Knowledge

Students who work diligently at trying to improve their skills and better themselves in both the classroom and at school functions.  These students demonstrate effort is clear through asking for help, attending tutoring, making the extra effort, and are eager to better themselves.

 Creativity and Innovation

Students who demonstrate an innovative approach to schoolwork, participate as active members of the school community, and share their gifts of creativity with the rest of the SHHS student body.

Community Building

Students who are eager to help others in both the classroom and at school events, have a willingness to work positively and effectively with others as a team player, and desire to see a more unified school campus.

The SHHS PTSA will receive nominations submitted online by any SHHS staff members for review by a subcommittee.  Each quarter these recipients will be acknowledged by announcing them in the daily Morning Announcements and recognizing them in the “Gold Standard,” the Principal’s Newsletter.  Students will also be invited to an evening PTSA meeting to receive a certificate from the principal and will hear what the staff nomination said about them.
